What this platform is

AK Records is a free tool that helps people draft, send, and track public records requests under the Alaska Public Records Act (AS 40.25.110–.220). Requests are sent through a platform email address that routes agency replies back to the requester.

What you agree to when using the platform

You will not use the platform to harass, threaten, or intimidate any individual, agency employee, or organization.
You will not submit requests in bad faith or for the primary purpose of overwhelming agency staff.
You will not impersonate another person. The platform allows pseudonymous filing under Alaska law, but you may not knowingly file using another real person's identity.
You will not upload or attempt to publish material whose disclosure is unlawful (sealed records, FERPA-protected student records you obtained outside official channels, classified material, etc.).
You are the legal requester of any request you file. The platform is a tool; it does not become a party to your records request.

Sign-on / piggyback signers

If you add your name to someone else's request as a sign-on signer, you confirm your name (real or pseudonym) will appear in the official letter to the agency. You are not liable for any fees. The original requester remains the legal requester. You can withdraw your name at any time using the one-click link in the confirmation email we sent you.

Public archive

If you opt your request into the public archive, all subsequent agency correspondence and released documents become publicly visible. This is irreversible for material that has already been indexed by search engines or third parties. Think carefully before clicking "publish."

Platform's rights

Editors may remove or unlist content that violates these terms. Repeated violations may result in account suspension. The platform is provided "as-is" without warranty.
